Stud length is decided by your track’s lug height, not by your sled. Get it wrong and the stud punches through the track at speed. This tool does not work that number out — it looks it up in the charts the two manufacturers publish, and shows you both.
Every figure this tool returns is transcribed from Woody's Traction Hookup Guide and their Penetration Chart G1-06-0001-6, with Stud Boy's per-year application charts shown alongside where they publish the same machine. Nothing is calculated. Where they publish nothing, this tool says so and stops.
How this works
Pick your sled, the year, and the track it actually has. That last one matters more than the first: Ski-Doo and Polaris sell the same model with two or three different tracks in the same year, and a 1.25″ Ripsaw and a 1.5″ Ice Ripper XT do not take the same stud.
What comes back is a transcription. Woody’s publish a stud series, an overall stud length, a stud count for each riding style, a stud pattern with the split between single and double support plates, a template part number, and a carbide runner length — per sled, per track. Stud Boy publish their own lug height, stud length and stud count for the same machines. Both are shown. Neither is adjusted.
Why two columns instead of one answer
Because the two manufacturers are not measuring the same thing, and averaging them would produce a number neither of them published.
- Woody’s series is the length from the top of the backing plate to the tip of the stud. Series 1325 has an overall length of 1.740″.
- Stud Boy quote a stud size and a separate overall length, and for a 1.250″ lug they suggest 1.375″ with an O.A.L. of 1.755″.
- Stud Boy’s Safety count is not Woody’s Trail count. On a 2019 MXZ 850 they publish 136 where Woody’s publish 90. Both are right; they are answering different questions.
Use one manufacturer’s chart with that manufacturer’s studs and plates. Do not mix them.
What we do check
The one thing both manufacturers state and can therefore be checked against each other is the machine fact: lug height and track length. Across 596 sled and track combinations where both publish the same machine, there are zero disagreements. Where they disagreed, this tool would say so and refuse to answer.
Where it stops
Deep-snow sleds are the common case. Woody’s publish the Summit and the PRO-RMK, and publish no stud series for the tall-lug tracks, because a 2.5″ or 3.0″ lug cannot be studded within their 3/8″ maximum penetration. When you ask this tool about one of those, it tells you that Woody’s publish nothing and stops. It does not extrapolate off the end of the chart.
