Fitment guarantee

What happens when we get it wrong. Worth stating plainly when fitment is the product.

Fitment is the product here. Everything else is logistics. So it is worth writing
down exactly what we promise, and exactly what happens when we fail.

The promise

If a part is listed against your machine on this site and it does not fit, that is our mistake,
not yours. We pay the freight both ways, we send the right part, and we fix the underlying data so
the next rider does not hit it.

How we try not to need it

  • Every fitment claim comes from the manufacturer’s published application data.
Not from product copy, not from a retailer’s listing, not from a pattern we noticed.
  • Where two manufacturers publish the same machine, we check them against each other
on the facts they both state — lug height and track length. Across 596 sled and track combinations,
    they disagree on zero.
  • Where they measure differently, we show both and blend neither. Woody’s and Stud
Boy do not size studs the same way. Averaging them would invent a number.
  • Where the published data does not cover your case, the tools say so and stop.
That is a feature. A calculator that always has an answer is a calculator that is sometimes making
    one up.
  • PDF tables are rebuilt from word coordinates and cross-checked. The obvious way
to read a fitment PDF shifts columns; that is how a rider ends up with the wrong belt.

What we refuse to sell

There is a file in this project called deferred.csv. It holds every part we could
price but could not verify fitment for, with the reason and what would unblock it. Right now that
includes the entire hyfax category — Garland’s part numbers encode a profile style and a length, but
nobody publishes the style-to-machine chart — and the whole EPI clutch line, because their
application charts are not reachable and a clutch kit on the wrong machine is a belt fire.

Those are categories that would sell. They are not listed. A thin catalogue that is correct beats
a deep one that lies, and in this category a wrong part number strands somebody a long way from the
truck.

The limits, stated plainly

  • We can only be as right as the manufacturer’s published data. Where they publish an ambiguity —
and they sometimes do — we mark it ambiguous rather than picking a side.
  • Model-year boundaries and mid-year running changes are the usual source of error. If your machine
is near one, tell us before you order and we will check by hand.
  • A modified machine is outside every published chart. Say so and we will talk rather than look
    it up.
